I finally get why my $180 pair of boots from the Red Wing store in Des Moines outlasted three $60 pairs
My uncle told me at a family cookout in Ames last July that I was paying for the resole, not the leather, and two winters of actual walking later I'm starting to think the cheap ones are the real ripoff, so does anyone else factor in resole cost before they argue about boot prices?
What did the resole actually run you? That is the number people skip when they do the math. A $180 boot with a $90 resole every couple years still beats a $60 boot that goes in the trash after one season. But a lot of the cheap ones are glued together, so there is no resole to begin with. The boot is just done. When did you hit the point where the heel was worn down enough to bother?
