My church's potluck rule debate got way too heated last Sunday

We argued 40 minutes over whether store bought cookies count as a real dessert contribution. One guy quoted the Bible about hospitality and another said it was about effort, not money. Has anyone else had a mundane church policy turn into a full blown theological fight?
