Noticed a huge shift in my church's political conversations over the last 2 years
I go to a moderate sized church in Des Moines. Back in 2022, our Sunday school discussions were mostly about theology and local outreach. Then right around the 2024 primaries, things started getting tense. People began bringing national politics into every single lesson, and now even a simple Bible verse about kindness turns into a debate about immigration or taxes. It's made fellowship feel more like a cable news panel. Has anyone else seen their religious group change this fast?

Who's usually the one steering it toward politics?

I had a neighbor who could turn a conversation about lawn care into a debate about zoning laws. That guy could steer a discussion about a movie into a heated argument about tax brackets. So in my experience, it's usually that one person who can't let anything just be simple.
