PSA: I mocked my wife's church donations for a decade, then I saw the actual spreadsheets
We moved to Dayton in 2019 and she gave $200 a month to her congregation's food pantry. I figured it was just a feel-good scam. Then the church published their annual report showing 82% of every dollar goes directly to groceries for local families. My skepticism looked pretty stupid once I added up the receipts. Has anyone else had to eat their words about a religious group's finances?

Admit it took me years to stop eye-rolling at my buddy's tithing too. Then his church showed me their yearly breakdown and it was basically all going to a homeless shelter and utility help for members. Felt like a total jerk afterward.

Ha, right? I was the same way until I actually sat down and looked at where my own donations were going. Turns out my money was basically keeping the church's community pantry stocked and paying a few people's heating bills over winter. Now I'm the one side-eyeing everyone who complains without checking the numbers first, lol.
