Showerthought: a guy at the gym said he argues politics like he spots a bench press
He told me you don't shove the bar up for someone, you just keep your hands ready so they don't drop it on themselves, and he treats every debate that way now. I tried it in a thread about taxes last week and got a real answer instead of a fight. Does anyone else have a go-to trick for keeping an argument from turning personal?
Man, my buddy tried something like that with his brother in law over some dumb argument about lawn care. Instead of telling him he was wrong he just asked questions and let the guy talk himself into a corner. Said it worked way better than going at him, mostly because the guy couldn't get mad at himself.
