Skeptical of my church's outreach program until I actually sat in on one

I've been a member at Grace Fellowship for about 5 years now and always rolled my eyes at the monthly outreach push. Last month I finally agreed to shadow the team at the Maple Street shelter and honestly thought it was just gonna be a bunch of guilt-tripping. But watching how they just listened to people, no strings attached, for 3 hours straight kind of got to me. It wasn't about converting anyone, it was about showing up. Has anyone else had an experience where they assumed a religious practice was fake until they saw it up close?
