Small win: had a real conversation about church separation at the county fair

I was at the Marion County Fair last Saturday and got talking with a guy running the church bake sale booth. We ended up chatting for like 20 minutes about whether religious groups should get tax exemptions on fair booth fees. I told him I think it creates an uneven playing field for secular vendors who have to pay full price. He actually listened and we swapped points without either of us getting mad. Has anyone else managed to have a civil back and forth on this kind of stuff in a random public setting?

Honestly, @troy_wilson8 brings up a good point about these talks happening in random spots. But here's an angle nobody's really hitting on yet - the church bake sale booth itself is the loophole. They're selling goods tax-free while undercutting the actual food vendors who paid full booth fees, so that "uneven playing field" is happening right there at the same fair. I once saw a Mennonite booth selling homemade pies for half what the nearby bakery was charging, and nobody batted an eye. Sure, it's a small win you got someone to listen, but the real conversation should be about why religious groups get to run a mini business with zero overhead while everyone else pays up.
