Threw $150 at a premium VPN for a year after hearing about privacy concerns and it slowed my whole connection to a crawl.

I signed up for the three-year plan of a big name VPN after a bunch of online privacy folks hyped it up, but streaming buffered constantly and my work video calls broke up every 10 minutes, so I had to cancel after two months and eat the fee has anyone else had this trouble with those high-rated services?

That report about VPNs selling usage data was mostly about free ones, not the paid services. Most major paid VPNs have had independent audits that showed they don't log or sell your data.

...and that three year plan was probably non-refundable too, right? I swear these VPN companies spend more on marketing than actual server infrastructure. My buddy signed up for one of those "military grade encryption" services and his download speed went from "wow this is fast" to "might as well be dial up." The irony is you pay them to protect your privacy, but then they sell your usage data anyway based on that one report I read last year. Hope that $150 at least came with a nice looking receipt for your collection.
