I was paying a guy $150 a month to "maintain" my furnace and I finally looked at the filter myself
We bought our place in Park Hill back in 2019 and I just kept writing the check to the same HVAC company every year, figuring that's what you do. Last February I came home to a cold house and the tech says the filter was so packed it choked the system, then hands me a bill for $340. My neighbor Travis asked why I wasn't just swapping a $12 filter myself every couple months, and I had zero answer. So now I'm the guy at Home Depot squinting at filter sizes at 7am, and the furnace has run fine for a year. Is a yearly tune-up even worth it or is that just a thing we all got talked into?
Same thing happened to us. Paid a company for three years before my wife pulled the filter out and it looked like a carpet. We just swap the cheap ones now every few months and the furnace guy basically told us the yearly thing is mostly for older systems. Saved us a ton.
