A guy at my barbershop told me my business cards looked like a funeral home ad and he was right
So I handed my card to my barber Marcus on Gratiot last week and he just stared at it and goes "this look like a program from a repass." I had used this dark gray background with fancy gold script for 3 years because I thought it looked classy. He said nobody can read the phone number from more than a foot away and asked if I was mad at my customers. I switched to plain white with thick black letters, big number on the back, and I've handed out 40 in 2 weeks with 6 callbacks. Anybody else get roasted by somebody who wasn't even trying to help your business?
Funny thing is I used to think those fancy dark cards with the script font made me look more legit, like I was some big shot lawyer or something. Then I got new tires put on and the guy handed me his card, dark blue with gold letters, and I couldn't read a single thing on it without holding it under the shop light. That was the moment it clicked for me. If a customer has to work to read your number, they're just gonna toss the card and call whoever's next on Google. Marcus did you a solid and he wasn't even trying to help. Plain white and big black type sounds boring but boring gets the phone ringing, and 6 callbacks in 2 weeks backs that up.
