Dropped $900 on a used box truck, best thing I ever did for my shop

Back in 2018 I was paying a delivery service $150 a week to get product to my customers around Detroit. That added up fast, over $7,000 a year. I finally bought a beat-up 2005 Ford E-250 from a guy in Warren for $900 and put about $400 into brakes and tires. Three years later that truck is still running and I've saved way more than I put in. Sure it guzzles gas and looks rough, but I control my own schedule now. Anyone else buy a clunker that turned out to be a lifesaver for their business?

Did that truck ever break down on a delivery route and leave you stuck with a load of product? That's the thing that scares me about going the clunker route. Like, I get the math works out on paper, but what happens when the alternator dies at 7am on a Tuesday and you got three stops waiting? Did you have a backup plan or did you just roll the dice every single day? Those E-250s are tough, but even tough needs parts eventually. I'm curious if the savings were worth the stress of wondering when the next big repair was gonna hit.
