Found a cheaper way to do my own bookkeeping after paying $400 a month

My accountant retired back in March and the next quote I got was $400 a month. I almost paid it, but my buddy at the Eastern Market deli told me about QuickBooks self-employed plus the local SCORE office. Four hours of their free workshop in Dearborn and I got my system down. Now I pay $30 a month and I catch my cash flow issues on the 15th instead of waiting for a report. Anyone else cut their overhead this way or am I crazy for going solo?

Not crazy at all. That $400 quote made me laugh because I did almost the same thing after my old CPA left. I spent a weekend with the QuickBooks free trial and watched a few YouTube videos from the SBA channel. My biggest win was setting up automatic bank feeds so I don't have to enter anything by hand. I still send my numbers to a tax preparer once a year, but that runs me around $250 instead of a monthly bill. The 15th of the month check-in is the habit that really keeps me honest with my spending.
