Spent $400 on a Google Ads consultant for my Detroit shop and it backfired hard

I run a small bakery in Midtown and thought I needed expert help to get more customers online. This guy promised me Google Ads would double my foot traffic in a month. After $400 and zero new orders, I realized he was just using generic templates and not targeting local zip codes. Anyone else get burned by an overpriced marketing person?

Oh man, that's rough. I had a similar thing happen with a social media "expert" who charged me $300 and just reused the same basic posts for everyone. What actually worked for me was joining local Facebook groups for my area and posting about my spot there, plus running my own small $50 ads that specifically targeted people within 5 miles. It took more of my time but brought in way more customers than that consultant ever did.

Gotta disagree a bit here. Those $50 micro-targeted ads can work, but only if you've already dialed in your offer and know exactly who you're talking to. Facebook groups are great, but they're also full of people just looking for recommendations they can screenshot, not actual paying customers. Your mileage may totally vary depending on your area and what you're selling.
