Vent: My supplier on Jefferson Ave just doubled our paper costs overnight

Last week, I went to pick up our usual order for the print shop and the invoice was crazy. They said it's a 'new market rate' but gave no real heads up. We're talking an extra $400 a month now, which really cuts into our thin profit on flyers and business cards. Has anyone else in Midtown or Corktown found a good local paper supplier that won't do this?

Jefferson Ave is really out here playing Monopoly with paper now.

Man, that stings. We had the same thing happen last spring with our envelope supplier, just a random 30% jump with a note saying "adjusted rates" like that was supposed to make it okay. For a small shop like yours, $400 extra a month is basically eating up what you make on a couple of good rush jobs. I drove over to Discount Paper on Michigan Ave a few months ago after our old guy pulled that on a ream order, and they've been pretty steady so far. You might give them a call, at least worth a look since they didn't nickel-and-dime me on the last two orders.

Did they give any reason for the sudden change besides that vague market rate line?
