A client from a gallery show last year asked me to sign over all rights to my digital art for $300
It happened at the opening night for a group show in Austin. I was showing a series of three animated loops, and a man offered me a flat fee for the full copyright, saying 'the file is the real product, not the display.' I had spent over 80 hours on that set. He made it sound like a normal business deal, but it would have meant I could never show or sell those pieces again. It taught me to always discuss rights and pricing upfront before any showing. Has anyone else had a gallery client try to buy out their work for way too little?

80 hours for $300?" That's insane.

Consider the value of the experience you gain in those hours. That early practice can be way more important than the cash. It sets you up for much better jobs later.

So what's the actual hourly rate they're offering?
