A gallery owner in Austin told me my digital art wasn't 'real' art...

I was showing my portfolio at a local event, and he pointed at my tablet and said, 'It's just pushing buttons, anyone can do that.' That stuck with me for months, honestly. Has anyone else had their work dismissed like that, and how did you handle it?

Gallery owners used to make me feel the same way about digital work. I saw it as less than real art for a long time. Then I watched an artist create a full painting on an iPad, every brush stroke made by hand just without the mess. It clicked for me that the tool does not matter at all. The skill, the vision, the time put in, that is what makes it real. That guy is stuck in the past and his opinion is not worth your worry.

The tool always changes the art, @the_jenny.
