Casually showing my digital piece led to an unexpected tech support session

I was just trying to share my new digital painting with some friends over coffee, and one of them immediately started critiquing the render quality like it was a software issue. He went on about polygon counts and shading algorithms, completely missing the emotional tone I was going for. It was pretty funny in hindsight, but I felt a bit sidelined. How do you all handle when the technical aspects overshadow the artistic intent during informal showcases? I'd love to hear if others have faced this.

Seriously? Polygon counts over coffee?

It's just a different kind of interest. Some people find the technical side as engaging as the final artwork.

Man, that's so familiar. I just laugh it off and say something like, 'Hey, I was going for mood here, not a software demo.' Usually gets the point across.

Just ask what they feel about the mood first next time.
