Had a senior artist tell me to stop using soft brushes for everything

My mentor at the studio said hard brushes give better form definition, and after 6 months of fighting it, my portraits finally stopped looking like smudged clay.

@nancy_davis you too? Did switching to hard brushes fix your form issues or just make things worse first?

That smudged clay look is brutal, I've been there with my own art.

The clay definitely won that battle that day. Guess my "abstract approach" was just a fancy way of saying I made a mess.
