TIL those 'AI art' pieces can actually have a real artist behind them

I saw a digital portrait series online last week and assumed it was all computer-generated, but the creator posted a video showing their 3-hour Procreate process. Anyone else been surprised by the human skill in what they thought was just algorithm output?

And I read something about how some of those viral "AI" images actually have hours of manual touch up behind them, which makes sense when you look close. @jana_hernandez I saw that video too and it was eye opening how much layering and blending they did by hand. The whole thing reminds me of that debate about digital photography back in the day people thought it was cheating but it still takes real skill to get the lighting and composition right. There is a difference between typing a prompt and actually building an image from scratch with a stylus.
