Vent: My client's monitor made my teal look brown, and I redid 3 hours of shading on a hunch
So last week I was at a coffee shop downtown finishing up a digital portrait for a client who runs a small sticker shop in Portland. I had spent about 3 hours shading this dragon piece, real proud of how the teal scales turned out on my laptop screen. Then I sent a preview, and she said, "why does it look muddy brown in the shadows?" I was like what, no way. So I pulled it up on my phone and yeah, the teals were basically swamp green. I freaked out a little because the deadline was the next morning. I ended up recalibrating my monitor with a cheap $30 color checker I ordered off Amazon months ago but never used. After 20 minutes of fiddling with the settings, the colors finally matched across my phone and laptop. I still had to redo a chunk of the shading because the original file looked totally different once I could see it right. Has anyone else dealt with a monitor that lies to you about colors, and how did you figure out it was off before losing your mind?
