A guy in a Discord call asked me why I wanted raw edits to be deletable, and I couldn't answer him
I used to argue hard that platforms should never let posters edit or delete old comments, because I figured that was just how liars cover their tracks. Then last week my friend Dev, who moderates a 4,000 person gaming server out of Baltimore, pointed out that he removes doxxing posts every single day and the edit button is the only thing that keeps a victim's home address off the screen after the fact. It hit me that a delete is not always a cover up, sometimes it is just a mop. So where is the line between letting people clean up their own mess and letting them rewrite history?
