I lost $80 backing up a banned channel archive before the host wiped it

I paid for a year of cloud storage to back up a political commentary channel that got a 'community guidelines' strike. The host platform deleted the entire archive three days later, so my backup was useless. I should have used a decentralized tool like a torrent or a peer-to-peer network instead of trusting another corporate server. Has anyone else had a channel vanish and found a better way to save the videos?

What about a personal server? You'd have total control then.

Remember my buddy who set up a home server? His cat knocked a drink into the power strip last month. Lost a whole photo album from a trip. Total control means you're also in charge of every single point of failure.

Total control sounds great until your power goes out. Then you have zero control and your stuff is just gone. Who wants to be their own backup generator?
