The guy who told me to "just post without proof" got me temp banned

Some random user named @TechBro2022 in the politics sub kept saying I didn't need sources for a claim about voter ID laws. I followed his advice for ONE post and got a 30 day suspension from reddit for misinformation. Turns out the mods there enforce a strict citation rule that I never read. Now I'm stuck lurking until April 17th while everyone else debates the same topic. Anyone else ever get burned by listening to bad advice from strangers online?

Ha, classic. You trusted internet advice from someone who probably doesn't even read the sub's rules themselves. That's like taking driving lessons from a guy who's never sat behind a wheel. The mods live for that citation rule, they probably have it bookmarked for quick bans. Now you're stuck lurking while the same tired arguments happen without you. Hope you at least learned that "just post without proof" is the online equivalent of "hold my beer" - nothing good ever comes from it.

Man, I got burned the same way last year on a gardening sub. I posted a picture of my tomatoes without a timestamp and got booted for three days. What worked for me was making a simple notes file on my phone with the date, a quick description, and a photo. Now I just copy-paste that into every new post, never had a problem since. It takes like 30 seconds and saves you the headache of explaining yourself to a mod who's already seen this a hundred times.
