Came around on cold email after hating it for 3 years straight
I used to think cold email was spam, pure and simple. Worked at a B2B SaaS company in Austin where every campaign we ran got maybe a 1% reply rate. I told my boss it was dead. Then I took a freelance gig for a niche plumbing supplier and had to build outreach from scratch. I spent a week researching 200 prospects, wrote 5 different follow-ups per person based on their actual pain points, and got 14 replies in the first 10 days. That never happened with the blasts we sent from a cheap list. The difference was specificity, not volume. I still hate lazy cold email, but now I think the tactic gets blamed for bad execution. Has anyone else flipped on a channel they swore off, or was I just doing it wrong the whole time?
Totally get that feeling of swearing something off and then realizing it was your own bad setup all along. Been there with LinkedIn outreach, and yeah, the grind of real research versus blasting a cheap list makes all the difference.
