The thing people keep getting wrong is thinking a pretty email design alone keeps you out of the promo tab, but a simple plain text footer with your physical address and an opt out link does more for inbox placement than any fancy template, which I know because open rates on my own list jumped from 12% to 31% after I added one, so has anyone else had a client fight them on this?
Why do clients always think the pretty stuff is what matters? I had a client in Dallas who flat out refused to let me add the unsubscribe link and address for like two months, said it made her emails look "cheap and spammy." I pulled up her numbers and showed her that 40% of her sends were landing in promotions or getting flagged, and she still fought me on it. Once I finally got her to let me test it on half her list, the plain text version got almost double the opens in a week. It blows my mind that people pay for nice design and then skip the one basic thing that actually gets them seen!
