Found out 2 million visas a year get denied and it explains why half my nomad friends are always stressed
I was reading a report from some travel group last week and it said around 2 million visa applications get rejected every year globally. That number hit me because I always assumed if you had the paperwork and the money you were basically fine. A friend of mine got turned down for a Thailand long stay visa in January even though he had 3 months of bank statements and a lease. Now I get why so many of us keep a backup country list and refresh it every few weeks. Does anyone here actually plan for a denial, or do you just apply and hope?
The "keep a backup country list and refresh it every few weeks" thing made me laugh because mine is literally a note on my phone called "plan b countries" and it has like 11 entries now. My whole visa plan is basically me being too lazy to actually prep anything and just hoping the officer is in a good mood that day. Which is a terrible plan, and I know it, but here we are. The part that gets me is the randomness of it, your friend had everything and still got turned down, so what are the rest of us even supposed to do. Sometimes I wonder if half the stress is just from knowing the rules can change or get applied differently depending on who looks at your file.
