Picked Chiang Mai over Medellin for my first nomad base and I'm second guessing it 3 months in
I had to pick between Chiang Mai and Medellin back in February for my first long stay as a nomad. I went with Chiang Mai because the visa rules were simpler and the flight from SFO was $640 one way. Rent is $380 a month for a decent studio near Nimman and the food is cheap, but the smoky season hit harder than I expected. My coworker in Medellin keeps sending me photos of 75 degree weather while I'm wearing a mask to walk to coffee. The time zone also turned out rough, my team is in New York so I'm on calls until 11pm most nights. Anyone who has done both, did I mess up, or is the visa situation in Colombia still a headache?
So you're thinking about bailing after just 3 months because of some smoke and late calls? Burning season ends in April and you knew about the time zone before you booked, that's on you not Chiang Mai. Give it a full year before you write it off, because jumping ship to Medellin won't fix your New York schedule problem anyway.
