Question about flying with one carry-on for 3 years, did I mess up going back to a checked bag?
For 3 years I did every trip with just one 40L carry-on, no matter if it was Lisbon for a month or Medellin for two weeks. I was smug about it. Then in January I flew to Tbilisi and my back gave out hauling that thing up 4 flights of stairs because the elevator was broken, and I finally checked a bag on the way home. Here is the part that bugs me: it was easier. I did not have to fight for overhead space, I did not have to wear the same 3 shirts, and I could actually buy stuff without doing math on weight. Now I feel like all those years of packing cubes and travel soap were just a hobby I made up. My question is for people who switched back to checked bags, did you stay with it or go back to carry-on only? I want to know if this is a phase or if I am actually done with the one-bag thing.
