Showerthought: My "portable office" failed me in a Laos guesthouse
I was in Luang Prabang last month, thinking I had it all figured out with my mobile hotspot and laptop. Then a monsoon hit and knocked out the power for 12 hours straight. My hotspot died, my backup battery was drained, and I had a client deadline in 6 hours. I ended up hitching a ride on a scooter to a cafe 4 miles away that had a generator, typing out a report on my phone while squatting under a leaky awning. Has anyone else had their whole 'perfect setup' just crumble when the internet actually goes down?

OMG that's such a nightmare! I had almost the same thing happen in Bali last year. Rented this cute little bungalow thinking it would be a great place to work from, but then a storm took out the whole island's power for like 8 hours. My portable charger gave up after 2 hours and I was stuck with 5% battery on my phone. I ended up sitting in a random warung with a generator, using their wifi that was slower than dial-up, and had to send my client a rough draft from my phone while trying not to get rained on. It's like no matter how much tech you bring, nature always finds a way to ruin your plans. I feel your pain so hard!
