Spent $150 on a portable monitor in Bangkok and it saved my work week

My main laptop screen died right before a big client deadline while I was staying in a tiny Chiang Mai apartment. Grabbed a 15.6-inch Arzopa portable monitor from a mall tech shop for about 5000 baht. Having that second screen let me keep my reference docs open and hit the deadline without a panic. Anyone have a good backup plan for when your main gear fails on the road?

Oh man, that was a clutch save. I read a blog post once where a guy always travels with a tiny HDMI cord and a cheap universal power adapter. His whole plan is just to be able to plug into any TV in a hotel or Airbnb if his laptop screen goes. Seems smart, but what if you're somewhere with no TV, like your apartment? Your portable monitor fix is way more solid.

Honestly used to think that hdmi cord trick was the ultimate backup plan. But you're totally right, it falls apart the second there's no tv around. Your point about apartments or weird hotel rooms with no screen made it click for me. A portable monitor is just a sure thing no matter where you're stuck. Kinda wish I'd figured that out before my last work trip lol.
