Spent my first 8 months in Chiang Mai working from cafés and wondering why I was always broke
I was paying 120 baht for a latte every few hours just to keep my table at a café near Nimman, and it never once hit me that I was basically paying rent for a chair. A guy I met at a coworking spot asked why I didn't just get a monthly pass for 2500 baht, and I did the math on a napkin and felt kind of dumb. Turns out I was dropping around 9000 baht a month on drinks alone, which is way more than the pass plus a cheap apartment desk would've cost. Now I want to know if anyone else got sucked into the café lifestyle before you ran the numbers on it.
Man, my buddy did the exact same thing in Da Nang for like half a year. He was buying smoothies every two hours just to hold his seat, and when he finally added it up it was more than his rent. The cafe owners must love this trick because nobody ever does the math until someone else points it out.
