A guy in line at the ferretería in San Salvador heard my track leaking from my phone and said it needed more low end at 60hz
I brushed it off for like 2 weeks until I actually pulled up my mix in the car and yep, the kick was sitting way too high. Anyone else get real feedback from the most random place and then sit there mad because they were right?
How did the bartender even hear the snare well enough to call it buried, was the place dead quiet or was he just locked in on your track for some reason? @tessa394 makes a good point about untrained ears catching what we miss, but I want to know if these people are actually listening or just lucky. Did you ever ask him what made him say it?
I used to roll my eyes at stuff like that, like who is this random dude thinking he can hear my mix better than me. But honestly the more it happens the more I believe that untrained ears catch things we go deaf to after staring at a session for 12 hours. That 60hz thing is so specific too, like he wasn't just saying "sounds bad" he knew exactly where the problem was. I had a similar moment where a bartender told me my snare was buried and I sat with that one for a week before fixing it. At this point I trust strangers in public more than I trust my own monitors.
