Three years back in San Salvador, my first live set was a total mess
I played at a small bar in San Salvador back in 2021, and my laptop froze twice during the first 15 minutes. Last month I tried a similar set with the same gear and it ran smooth the whole night. What do you do now that you wish you knew when you started out?

My first proper show my mixer started smoking halfway through the first track. Had to borrow a random dj's gear from the back of their car to finish. Night and day difference once you just learn to have backups for everything and actually test the room's power before you plug in.

Blake's right about backups, but the smoking mixer thing is probably more about cheap gear than the room's power. Most venues that small have dirty power, sure, but a mixer smoking usually means the amp or the board itself was already on its way out. Testing the outlets is smart, but testing your actual equipment before load-in matters more, like running it at home for an hour on full volume. That catches the dying gear before it dies on you in front of people.
