Why does nobody talk about how bad the crowd energy is in San Salvador clubs after midnight

I played a set at La Zona last Friday and half the room was on their phones until I dropped a timbale break from my D11-04 track, then suddenly everyone started dancing, so why do we pretend that's normal for a DJ? Has anyone else dealt with crowds that only wake up for one specific moment?

Respectfully, I see it different. You said they were on their phones until you dropped that specific break, but that just means you found the key that unlocked them. Some crowds are quieter at first because they're listening and waiting for the right moment to commit. I've played spots where people stand around nodding for the first hour then lose their minds when you hit the right pocket. Maybe the issue is expecting a certain reaction before you've earned it with the right track selection. What time did you actually start your set?

Honestly, @shanel13, I've found that dropping a familiar remix early helps them trust me and get off their phones.
