Changed my mind about laminate flooring after seeing my buddy's kitchen
I always thought laminate was just cheap fake wood that looked terrible up close. My buddy Chris put some in his house near Atlanta about 8 months ago. I walked in last week and couldn't tell it wasn't real hardwood until I touched it. The grain pattern and the way the light hit it was way better than I expected. He paid around $3.50 a square foot and installed it himself over a weekend. Has anyone else been surprised by the newer laminates or am I just easy to fool?

...and honestly I'm pretty easy to fool so that might be part of it. My buddy put some in his basement and I was kneeling down trying to find a seam for a solid five minutes. Felt like an idiot when he told me it was laminate. The stuff they're making now is light years ahead of the old warpy planks that looked like a bad 90s movie set. What brand did your friend use?

You're right about the new stuff, it's pretty impressive. A buddy of mine put some in his living room last year and I honestly thought he'd paid someone to refinish the hardwood until he told me it was laminate. I felt like a fool too.
