Finally gave up on my old paint roller and tried a new kind

I was painting my kitchen cabinets in my apartment and kept getting tiny bubbles and lint in the finish with my old cheap roller. My friend lent me a 4 inch foam roller she got from the hardware store, and the difference was huge. The foam gave a super smooth coat with no texture, and I didn't have to sand between coats. Has anyone else found a simple tool change that made a big difference in a paint job?

My buddy Mike tried a paint pad for his trim last week and said it was way faster than a brush.

Honestly, I used the same crusty old brush for like five years because I was too cheap to buy a new one. Tbh it was shedding more hairs than my cat and leaving streaks on everything. Finally grabbed a decent angled brush for cutting in edges and it was a total game changer. Ngl I felt pretty dumb for putting up with the old one for so long. That smooth line made me look like I knew what I was doing for once.

The foam roller thing is real. A friend of mine who flips houses told me she switched to the same kind of rollers a few years back and says she'll never go back to the fuzzy ones for cabinets or trim. She warned me that you gotta be careful not to press too hard or it leaves weird lines, but if you do it right the finish looks like it was sprayed on. Her biggest tip was to get the ones with the rounded ends so you don't get those annoying flat marks on the edges. I finally tried one myself on a bookshelf project and yeah, felt like a total amateur for not knowing about them sooner.
