Finally got my basement floor flat after 4 weekends of grinding
Honestly, I bought this old house in Cleveland 3 years ago and the basement slab had about a half inch of high spots in places. Last month I finally rented a concrete grinder from Home Depot and spent every Saturday chasing it flat. Took me 4 weekends and two diamond cup wheels but I got it within 1/8 inch across the whole floor. Has anyone else tried self-leveling compound after grinding or should I just stain it as is?

Tried the self-leveling compound route after a similar grind job and ended up with a floor that looked like a very expensive, very bumpy ice skating rink. My pour was about an inch thick in the low spots but I clearly didn't mix it right because it set up with these weird waves. Now I've got a conversation piece instead of a flat floor (and a conversation about what went wrong).

@the_eva That's rough, I feel your pain. An inch thick in the low spots sounds like you were basically trying to fill a swimming pool with that stuff. Now your floor has more personality than a bad art gallery opening.
