Heads up if you're painting over old wallpaper paste

I tried to paint my kitchen after stripping the wallpaper, but the leftover paste reacted with my new paint and made a sticky, bubbly mess. Has anyone found a primer that actually seals that stuff for good?

Ugh, been there. You need an oil-based primer, not water-based. That leftover paste is water-soluble, so a latex primer just re-wets it. I used Zinsser Cover Stain. Scrub the walls with TSP first, let them dry completely, then roll that stuff on. It stinks but it locks the paste down. My kitchen has been fine for three years now.

Sticky, bubbly mess" sounds like my last cooking experiment, not a paint job.
