Hit 200 psi on my own air compressor build and people told me it wasn't possible

Everyone in the garage forums said you can't safely push a Craftsman tank past 150 psi without it blowing. I reinforced the welds, added a pressure relief valve from a hydraulic shop, and hit 200 psi for three straight weekends. Has anyone else gone way past the rated specs on old equipment and gotten good results?

200 psi from a Craftsman tank? That's insane, you're playing with shrapnel.

You mentioned "playing with shrapnel" and that brought back a memory. A guy I used to work with back in the 90s had an old compressor he thought he could push past the rated limit. He had it running in his garage for a few hours and we heard this loud bang from two houses down. The tank split right down the side and put a dent in his workbench. Nobody got hurt luckily but it sure made a mess. I stick to what the manual says these days.
