I finally gave in and painted my kitchen cabinets... and it was the worst weekend of my life.
For months, my wife kept saying we should paint our oak cabinets white. I was totally against it... told her it was a huge job and they looked fine. She wore me down, so I blocked out a three-day weekend, bought a gallon of this 'Cabinet Coat' paint everyone online raves about, and got to work. I spent 8 hours on Friday just cleaning and sanding. My hands were cramping. Saturday, I started painting. The paint went on weird... it was thick and gummy, and showed every single brush stroke. I did two coats and it looked terrible. Sunday, I tried a third coat with a foam roller. It looked even worse, like orange peel texture. The whole kitchen was a mess, the fumes were awful, and I had to call off work Monday to try and fix it. I'm staring at these lumpy, streaky cabinets right now. What did I do wrong? Is this paint just bad, or did I skip a step? I need to salvage this before my wife gets home from her trip.

Yeah, that stuff is way harder than the videos make it look. Totally agree with shanewells, been there. Used to think it was just about slapping on paint, but nope. Sounds like maybe the sanding step got rushed or the paint needed thinning.
