I was a total skeptic about using a paint sprayer indoors until I redid my basement ceiling last week.

After taping off everything with contractor plastic and wearing a respirator, I finished two coats on a popcorn ceiling in my 600 sq ft basement in under 3 hours, a job that would have taken me a full weekend with a roller and left me with a sore shoulder.

My first time trying a paint sprayer, I covered my entire kitchen in a fine white mist. I looked like a ghost who had lost a fight with a powdered donut. The cleanup took longer than the actual painting job. Your plastic sheeting idea is a lot smarter than my old method of just hoping for the best. I might finally give it another shot for my own basement.

Plastic sheeting is a good start, but you'll want to tape it down at the edges too. That mist gets into every tiny gap and finds its way out. A good seal makes all the difference with a sprayer.

Yeah I feel you on that. I did the same thing with a can of black spray paint once, went for a quick touch up on a chair leg and ended up with a fine black dust over everything in a ten foot radius. Looked like I had been working in a coal mine for a month. The worst part is finding little specks of paint on stuff weeks later when you least expect it. Like a surprise reminder of your own bad decisions.
