Just realized how much my ventless dryer actually costs me per year

I was looking at our electric bill last week and noticed it jumped in the winter. So I started checking the specs on my ventless heat pump dryer. Found out it uses about double the kWh per load compared to a regular vented one. We run it almost every day with 4 people in the house in Phoenix. Anyone else run the numbers on their appliances and get a surprise?

Double the kWh per load? Man that's rough. I never would have guessed a ventless model would eat that much power, especially in Phoenix where the heat's already beating you up.

Oh absolutely, Blake, you're spot on. I had a ventless dryer for a year and the electric bill went up by a noticeable amount every month, even just doing normal laundry for two people. It was like the thing was running a tiny furnace 24/7. And in Phoenix of all places, having that extra heat and moisture pumped into the house must be a real kick in the pants during the summer. I finally swapped back to a vented model and the difference in both power use and how hot the room felt was night and day.

My sister actually has a ventless dryer and I always thought she was being dramatic about her bills. I told her months ago that it probably wasn't that bad and she was just misreading her statement. Now I look like an idiot because she sent me a link to this thread and the numbers check out. 700 kWh per year extra for her household compared to what a vented unit would pull. That's like running a space heater nonstop for a month straight. I guess I owe her an apology tonight.
