Rant: Is spray foam insulation really worth the hype? I'm not convinced.

I used to think spray foam was the gold standard for sealing up my attic in Denver, but after my buddy paid $2,000 to get his done and still had ice dams last winter, I'm wondering if good old fiberglass batts with proper air sealing do the same job for half the cost. Anyone else seen spray foam fall short or am I just being cheap?

Well, I've had worse luck picking insulation than my last haircut.

Totally feel you on that. I once grabbed a roll of stuff from a clearance bin thinking it was a steal and ended up with a wall that looked like a lumpy mattress. NEVER making THAT mistake again.
