Rant: People keep measuring paint by the gallon and ignoring the coverage rate
I helped my neighbor paint her living room last weekend and she bought 3 gallons for a 10x12 room, but the can said it covers 400 sq ft per gallon and her walls were barely 350 total. Why do folks just grab extra cans without doing the math first?

Right, because clearly the paint fairy is going to come and do the math for you while you're at the store. You just need to grab the biggest, shiniest can because more is better, right? That's how my kitchen got two extra gallons of "eggshell white" that's now just a very expensive dust collector in my garage. Next time I'm just gonna tell her to bring a calculator and a tape measure, not a credit card.

Right because who needs basic geometry when you can just guess and fill your garage with expensive paint cans. My uncle did the same thing with his garage, bought 5 gallons for a single car garage and now he's got a "rustic" paint shelf situation going on. At this point I'm convinced people think "coverage rate" is just some suggestion the paint companies put on the can for fun. Maybe we should start selling paint by the square foot so people stop treating it like bulk toilet paper.
