Shoutout to the old guy at the Tacoma hardware store who saved my deck project
Three years ago I was trying to build a deck in my backyard and kept having issues with the posts wobbling. I went to the store on 6th Avenue for the fifth time that week, and this older guy named Frank asked what I was doing. He told me to dig my holes 36 inches deep instead of 24 and pack the gravel base in 2 inch layers, wetting each one. I followed his advice and that deck hasn't moved an inch since. Has anyone else gotten a game changing tip from a random person at the store?

That's not luck, that's just good old experience. Frank knew his stuff.

Didn't Frank write a whole thing in the local paper about foundation depths back in 2019? I swear I remember reading that exact trick about wetting the gravel layers in there.
