Ugh, I feel that pain. I once tried to thin some paint with water like a genius and ended up with a weird, streaky mess on my shed, lol. The Graco Magnum that was mentioned is a good call, their X5 model is basically the go-to for that kind of job without going pro. Handled some thick deck stain for me without a hiccup.

Oh man, that's the worst kind of DIY tax. I mean, you spend the money to save money and then it just eats more money and your whole weekend. Classic. For what it's worth, I had good luck with a Graco Magnum for my fence, it pushed some pretty goopy stuff without a fight. Maybe check those out, the middle of their line seems solid.
