Spent $80 on an electric paint sprayer that gave me nothing but grief

Bought one of those cheap HVLP sprayers from the hardware store thinking I'd save time on painting my living room ceiling, and ended up with paint everywhere except where I wanted it. Has anyone else had better luck with those things or is it just me?

Try thinning the paint way more than you think you should, that stuff just can't handle thick paint straight out of the can.

Tried thinning my last batch way more than I thought made sense, like almost watery. Ended up needing three coats but the finish came out smooth with no brush marks. Let it dry a few hours between coats and it worked better than any thick application I tried before.
