That $40 moisture meter from Amazon was way off, ruined my subfloor replacement
Bought a cheap meter off Amazon because I thought they all work the same. Checked my OSB subfloor before laying new LVP, it read 8% moisture. Laid the whole floor. 3 months later the planks are cupping and I pull up a section. Subfloor was actually at 16% according to the lumber yard's pin meter. Cheap meter was garbage. Cost me $200 in ruined flooring and a weekend of labor. Anyone else had a tool that just flat out lied to you?

Eight percent to sixteen percent is a huge difference, that's wild.

Tbh @umabailey, what do you think is causing that jump? Is it better access to testing or something else like awareness? I keep seeing numbers like that and wondering if the lower figure is just because people weren't looking hard enough before. Eight percent to sixteen percent sounds like a real shift in how common something is, not just a statistical fluke. Curious if the data controlled for demographics or if its just a raw comparison.
