Warning: that $20 vinyl flooring cutter from the big box store is a complete waste of plastic

I fought with that thing for 3 hours on a small bathroom floor before giving up and just using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge, which took me 20 minutes total, anyone else find those cutters are totally useless for anything thicker than a sheet of paper?

Oh man, I had the exact same experience with one of those cutters in my laundry room. The blade just kept slipping and it wouldn't score the vinyl correctly, leaving jagged edges everywhere. I ended up renting a proper vinyl cutter from a local tool library for like $8, and that thing sliced through the flooring like butter, no wrestling required. So yeah, if you've got a tool library nearby definitely check that route first, even the cheaper rental ones are way better than that big box store garbage.

Grabbed mine from the back of the closet last week thinking it would save me some time, and man, that thing fought me like it had a personal grudge. Ended up tossing it across the garage after it mangled the third piece of LVP and just used my old box cutter instead. I swear those cutters are designed by someone who's never actually touched a piece of vinyl flooring in their life. Pretty sure it would struggle to cut through wet cardboard, honestly.
