Flipped my opinion on drywall mud after a painter laughed at me
I was at Home Depot last Saturday grabbing joint compound for a small patch job, and some painter guy saw me reaching for the premix buckets and just shook his head. He told me quick-set powder is way easier for small fixes because it doesn't shrink or crack, and it sets in 20 minutes without waiting overnight. Has anyone else found a trick like that that completely changed how you do a simple job?

Man, @jana_hernandez is right, that garage graveyard of half-used premix buckets is a real thing! Quick-set powder really changed the game for me too. The no-shrink part is what sold me, I used to have to do three coats with premix and sand between each one. But with the powder I can do two coats and its done. Have you tried the 45 minute setting time for bigger patches or do you stick with the 20 minute stuff? I learned the hard way that 20 minute stuff goes off real fast if your wall is warm or its a hot day.

Premix buckets and a painter shaking his head at me, sounds about right." I still ended up with half a bucket drying out in my garage before I learned that lesson.
